For many years the Subaru brand was synonymous only with Lake District farmers and their trusty 4wd pick ups often filled with sheep. World Rally Championship wins, and particularly Colin McRae, certainly changed that rustic image. Now everyone wants an Impreza WRX, the more muscular cousin to the UK Impreza Turbo. With the WRX's turbocharged flat four producing at least 240 bhp, and up to 280 bhp for later cars, the bullet-proof engineering coupled with rally-inspired suspension and Subaru's legendary 4wd, the Impreza's popularity is easy to understand. Whilst the somewhat bland styling may not be to everyone's taste, in the performance per £ equation, the WRX is simply unbeatable.
