warranties

Breakdowns or mechanical failures occasionally
do happen even when cars are properly prepared and maintained. For our customer's, and our
own peace of mind we use MB&G Insurance, as providers of mechanical breakdown
insurance. We have dealt with them for 10 years and have found them to be both
professional and reasonable both with ourselves and our customers.

MB&G have
a national network of approved repairers. In the unfortunate event that you need to take
advantage of the policy, then no matter where you are in the country there should be an
approved garage within a reasonable distance.
On the
majority of our cars the screen price includes the cost of a 3 month parts and labour
warranty with a £1000 single claim limit. The total number of claims within the term
being limited to the selling price of the vehicle. In some cases the term can be longer or
claim limit higher - see the SMC import package for
further details of specific cars. The exceptions to this may be certain older part
exchange vehicles or special offers where both the term and the claim limit may be
reduced.
There are certain terms,
exclusions and requirements, and we recommend that any warranty document is studied
carefully. A major area of misunderstanding can be the incorrect assumption that
"fair wear and tear" is covered by mechanical breakdown insurance or a warranty
policy. Even those generous souls new car manufacturers do not cover wear and tear under
the warranty terms for brand new cars, and realistically cover for costs incurred
as a result of normal usage certainly shouldn't be expected under the more restricted
terms of a used car warranty. Put simply, when your tyres wear smooth, as they will, or
when your brakes pads wear down, as they do, the warranty company will not pick up the
tab!
A more realistic summary of an M.B.I policy would be that the owner is expected to
cover day to day running costs, but if something fairly significant breaks or drops off
when it patently shouldn't have, then you're in with a shout.

Incidentally, it is always a condition of M.B.I. cover that the insured keeps the
vehicle properly maintained to manufacturers standards. Although we would like you to come
back to us for servicing, and our prices are very competitive, under the terms of the
warranty you're not obliged to. However, the servicing garage needs to be VAT registered
as a minimum - and no - an occasional oil change by your mate with the lock-up most
certainly doesn't count.
Any warranty or MBI policy offered by ourselves is in
addition to, and does not affect, your statutory rights.
